Before you go for unmarking...
Although MacBook keyboards are beautiful to look at and very popular, they can be difficult to work with unless you have mastered blind typing.
Keep in mind that if you make the keyboard unmarked at the level of being able to blind touch a sentence, you will not be able to tell where special symbols that you do not usually use are when you use them, so this is a customization for advanced users.
In some cases, especially if you do a lot of typing on the keyboard, unimprinting can dramatically reduce your work efficiency, so be sure to check for problems before you do it.
Main methods of unmarking
Putting a special sticker on the key top
The most major method, and one that became a hot topic when it was first released, is to apply a special sticker to the keytops.
Pro numeric BOSP-J Blackout Sticker
Not only does the dedicated sticker look like a genuine one, but it can be removed even if you make a mistake.
However, the disadvantage of the sticker is that the feeling of typing may change slightly.
Paint the key tops
The idea is that if you want to erase the letters on the key tops, you can paint the tops with the same color.
The best way to paint the key tops is to use
- manicure
- oil-based magic marker
However, since oil-based magic marker will be removed by finger oil while using it, nail polish is the standard.
However, the disadvantage is that unless the paint is applied quite neatly, the keyboard will be more like a "black circle on the keytop" keyboard rather than unmarked.
Considering the disadvantages of labor and appearance, it would be safer to use a dedicated sticker honestly.
Removing keytop imprints
The key tops can be removed by scraping with sandpaper or chemically removing the key tops with a de-icer. It is a steady work, but you can certainly get rid of the imprint.
However, since the letters on the keytops of recent MacBook series are laser-engraved instead of printed, this is a very persistent process, and the keyboard may be damaged by the sandpaper powder or the light-removing solution.
Be sure to understand this point before attempting the process.
